Step 1
Complete the Caretaker Application online. (If you are unable to use an online form, contact us by email and we will send you a document you can print out and return to us after you have filled it out.)
Step 2
Schedule and complete a video or phone meeting with a representative from Parrot Caretaker Network.
Step 3
Schedule an in-person meeting with the parrot and their current caretaker or representative. You will get approval for adoption when you come to meet the bird. In most cases the bird will go home with you that same day, but if there are remaining questions about compatibility or your preparedness we will ask that you make a return trip in approximately 30 days, at which time you will either be approved to adopt or denied. All birds initially go home as trial adoptions. Adoption is contingent on completion of Steps 4 and 5.
Step 4
30 days after you take the bird home you will have a video meeting to show the bird’s environment and condition (cage, toys, diet, etc.).
Step 5a (applies to only some of the birds)
Between 60-90 days after you take the bird home you will be asked to return to the aviary with the bird for a general health inspection. At that point if the bird is in good health your adoption will be finalized.
Step 5b (applies to birds not covered by 5a)
Between 60-90 days after you take the bird home you will need to schedule a check-in meeting with a representative from Parrot Caretaker Network. If health, behavior, and relationship with you and your family seem good the adoption will be finalized.
